Setup Procedure for Seasweb on Mac Computers
This is a step by step description of how to properly
set up your Mac computer for use with Seasweb.
Important: due to a
limitation of the Adobe Acrobat Reader for Mac OS X (ten), Seasweb will not
function properly if you are running Mac OS X as the operating system. This can
be overcome by rebooting the computer into OS 9, which is detailed below.
Workaround for using Seas Web on
Macintosh Computers using OS X (OS TEN)

Click on the apple in the upper left-hand
corner

Click on System Prefs (will say Control
panels on some systems)

Click on Startup Disk from the menu that
appears
-
Click on OS 9 and hit the restart button
at the bottom of that window

After the system restarts you will
be running the proper operating system for Seasweb
Required Software
-
Internet Explorer version 5.1.6 for Mac
-
Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5.1 For Mac
Before you
install Internet Explorer and Adobe Acrobat Reader:
-
Quit any other programs that are running,
including virus-protection programs, because they might interfere with
installation.

Make sure Aladdin Systems StuffIt
Expander version 5.5 or later is installed on your computer. If an earlier
version of StuffIt Expander is installed on your computer, you might not
be able to install this download.
To install Internet Explorer:

On your hard disk, double-click the file
that you downloaded to expand it. Depending on the Web browser that
you are currently using, this step might be performed for you
automatically.

Double-click the Internet Explorer
5.1.smi file to start the setup program. On the desktop, double-click the
Internet Explorer 5.1 file. Then copy the Internet Explorer 5.1 folder to
the Macintosh HD.
To install Adobe Acrobat
Reader:

On your hard disk, double-click the file
that you downloaded to expand it.

On your hard disk, double-click the file
named Acrobat Reader Installer. This starts the download process for
the rest of the files required to use Acrobat Reader.

After the files are downloaded, open the
Macintosh HD and double-click on the applications folder
-
Double-click on the Acrobat Reader
folder, then double-click on the Web Browser Plug-in folder
-
Copy the file PDFViewer into the plug-ins
folder located in the Internet Explorer folder on the Macintosh HD.
Changing the Memory Usage of Internet
Explorer and Adobe Acrobat Reader
On Macintosh computers you can
adjust the amount of memory a program uses to increase speed and stabilize
performance. We recommend that you increase the memory usage of these programs
by following the instructions below.

You must quit Internet
Explorer and Adobe Reader if they are open. If the name of the program appears
in the application switcher, click on the name of the program, then open the
File menu and choose quit.

Double-click on the Macintosh HD Icon on
the desktop and find the Internet Explorer folder. Double-click on the folder,
then click on the Internet Explorer icon once, then open the File menu, choose
Get Info, and choose Memory from the submenu.

In the window that appears, double-click
on the Preferred Size box and type in 40000. Then double-click on the
Minimum Size box and type in 20000.

Click on the close box.

Double-click on the Macintosh HD on the
desktop and find the Adobe Acrobat folder. Double-click on the folder,
then click on the Adobe Acrobat icon once, then open the File menu, choose Get
Info, and choose Memory from the submenu.

In the window that appears, double-click
on the Preferred Size box and type in 40000. Then double-click on the
Minimum Size box and type in 20000. Click on the close box to save your
changes.
Configuring
Internet Explorer for use with Seasweb
For Seasweb to function
properly there are settings that need to be adjusted within Internet Explorer.
The steps listed below are involved in changing these settings.

Double-click on the icon for Internet
Explorer to open it up.

From the menu bar located at the top of
the screen, click on Edit then click on Preferences from the menu
that appears. This will open the Internet Explorer Preferences window.

Click on Download Options from the list
on the left and use the picture provided on the next page to change your
settings to match the settings shown in the picture. Note: the Download Folder
setting does not have to changed.

Click on File Helpers from the list on
the left then click on the word Description under file helper settings to
arrange the list in alphabetical order.

Double-click on Acrobat
Forms Data Format and change all the settings on the window that appears to
match the picture provided below. Click ok when done.

Double-click on Acrobat
Forms Data Format in XML and change all the settings on the window that appears
to match the picture provided below. Click ok when done.

Double-click on Acrobat
Rights Management File and change all the settings on the window that appears
to match the picture provided below. Click ok when done.

Double-click on Acrobat
Portable Document Format and once more change all the settings on the window
that appears to match the picture provided below. Click OK when finished.

Click on Advanced from the
list in the left and change the Cache and Connections settings to match the
picture below. To change the location where the Cache file is stored, click on
the change button, and browse to the system folder highlight it and click on
the Choose button at the bottom of the window. This change will not put
temporary Internet files into the system folder. It only places a single cache
file into this folder.

Click ok on the Internet
Explorer Preferences window when finished with all the steps in this section.
Internet Explorer is now configured correctly to run Seasweb.
Configuring Adobe Acrobat Reader
for use with Seasweb

Double-click on the icon for Acrobat
Reader to open it up. If there is not an icon for Acrobat Reader on
the desktop, the program should be located on the Macintosh HD, in the
Acrobat Reader folder, located in the Applications folder.

From the menu bar located at the top of
the screen, click on Edit then click on Preferences from the menu
that appears. This will open the Acrobat Reader Preferences window.

Click on Options located in the list
located on the left-hand side of the window.

Use the picture provided on the next page
to change your computers settings to match those in the picture.

After this step is completed your
Macintosh will be configured properly for use with Seasweb.
